David Campbell is raising money for The Neros Foundation
The Neros Foundation is a small charity, founded in 2005, which has successfully carried out several low-cost but effective projects in remote villages on the island of Flores, Indonesia. We have installed (and subsequently upgraded) a piped water supply to Neros village, and built toilet and sanitation blocks in schools in two nearby villages. We estimate that these projects have directly improved facilities for approximately 1500 people, at a total cost of around £7,600.
We are now raising money for our most ambitious project to date: to build a medical centre in a remote location on the island of Flores, Indonesia. This centre would make a huge difference to local people; at present they have to travel for several days, along unmade tracks, to reach the nearest hospital - which the result that they often do not seek medical help until it is too late for the treatment to be fully effective. This clinic would be located in a central location in a rural area, and would provide basic treatment and preventative healthcare to literally thousands of people. We have already bought the land, we have support from the local community, and a commitment from the local government to send doctor and nurses to the clinic - now we just need to raise the money for the build.
We are close to raising the £30,000 necessary to build the clinic, and have only a few thousand pounds to go. To help raise funds I am cycling approximately 30 miles in the Wokingham bike-a-thon on Sunday 24 June. The weather is forecast to be terrible but I will be completing the ride come rain or shine! Any donation which you can give will be gratefully received.
