David Delicata is raising money for Pancreatic Cancer UK
Shortly after the last Brighton Marathon, inspired by other runners, the hot weather and a sudden surge of motivation and a moment of sheer madness - I had temporary leave of my senses and signed up for a half marathon in October 2015 and a full marathon in April 2016.
No, I haven't completely lost my marbles, and yes, you did read that correctly.
You may be aware I hate running and don't think that the words "fun" "run" should be used in the same sentence. Nevertheless, I have been inspired to do it and I am determined to make it to the finish line, both times.
My chosen charity is Pancreatic Cancer UK. I lost my father to pancreatic cancer, so Pancreatic Cancer UK is a charity close to my heart.
Pancreatic Cancer is very difficult to detect early and has low survival rates. Often symptoms don't appear until it is too late. Additionally, early tumours often can?t be seen or felt by during routine physical exams. By the time it shows up on a blood test it is usually too late. Even worse, pancreatic cancer is not very responsive to treatment.
I have chosen this charity to not only to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer, but to also help fund their research into early detection and discovering better treatments. Hopefully one day we will find a cure.
Even the smallest donation is very much appreciated and will go a long way to helping. I'm only asking for one donation for the two events so please dig as deep into your pockets possible.
Please make sure that you click that "GIFT AID" box.
Selecting "gift aid" means that for every pound you donate, the government also donates 25p, straight to the charity.
Thank you.
David
