I’ve walked 40 miles in a day, sod running it day after day. You’ll beat it next time :)
Event dates: 9th July 2021 – 12th July 2021
Declan Lawlor is raising money for The Lord's Taverners
"Pure mad idea: want to try and do Thames path source to sea, 184 miles in 4 days?"
This is how it starts, a message out the blue from my mate Seb. Maybe he asked some of his ultra-runner friends first, but I was the only one dumb enough to agree. No, I'm not an ultra runner. Actually the furthest I've ever run in one go is around 20 miles and, somehow, in July this year I will be dragging myself 46 miles per day for 4 days.
The lockdowns, as a result of the pandemic, have made me realise how much I rely on sport to maintain my general wellbeing. Sadly, for some people, taking part in sport and other recreational activities is not an option even outside of Covid times. The Lord's Taverners create a range of opportunities for young disabled people and those from deprived areas to engage in sport and recreational activities in their local communities. Their programmes support some of the most marginalised and at-risk young people in the UK.
Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto The Lord's Taverners.

I'm gutted to say that, after completing 94 miles across two days, we made the difficult, but sensible, decision to go no further with our Thames Path run.
Almost all of yesterday's 40 miles were done in complete agony and continuing on any further will increase the risk of long term damage. We threw absolutely everything at it, but it wasn't enough.
THANK YOU for all your amazing donations and messages of support. I'm completely overwhelmed by the generosity you've all shown and it fills me with happiness knowing how much this is going to help people that are suffering unfortunate situations.
Thank you again and take care,
Dec & Seb
