Dementia Forward - The Mayor of Pocklington's 50 mile charity walk

Dementia not only affects the elderly, but it can also affect people as young as 30 and it has a huge effect on family, carers and loved ones. Dementia Forward is a local charity which helps those living with dementia, and guides and supports family and carers. 
The charity and its work are important to me because I have seen family and friends affected from this terrible syndrome and seen families go through the pain of watching a loved one brains and functions decline. Dementia Forward is there to assist and help clients and carers alike.  
 
My wife and I are taking on a 50-mile walking challenge across parts of the Yorkshire Wolds to raise funds for Dementia Forward. The walk will take place in the first week of September and we will be encouraging people to join us for all or part of journey. Further details will follow.

This is a challenge as we are both septuagenarians, and the Wolds are steep and muddy in places! As the Mayor and Mayoress of Pocklington we will be doing this for three reasons: 

1. To raise funds for the Mayors Charity – All funds raised will go to Dementia Forward
2. To celebrate 50 years of Pocklington Town Council
3. To spread Pocklington’s Nature recovery programme to the surrounding Parishes which we pass through, to assist in the UK Nature Recovery Policy.

The money raised will go towards extending Dementia Forward’s Dementia Support Advisor work in the Pocklington area, with a named worker who will be able to support families with practical advice and information from pre diagnosis onwards.
