My story
Recently my nan who I have always looked up to, spent so much of my time growing up with and whole heartedly adore has been diagnosed with Dementia.
I signed up for this marathon before her diagnosis, it was just going to be a focus for me to do something to improve myself and to become fitter and healthier.
Nan’s diagnosis broke my heart, the lady she is today is so very different to who she was at the beginning of the year. She was always the one to look after everyone else, cares immensely for her family and always checked in on you with fondness and a good laugh.
We know it’s a bumpy journey ahead and one that’s going to be incredibly challenging and upsetting, but with the help of this amazing charity it will help us get through it and support Nan and ourselves the best they can.
So whilst out on a half marathon training run all I could think of was Nan and the times we’ve had together, that’s when I decided this is for her and to help others facing a similar situation. Charities like Dementia Forward are invaluable as they offer so much support, this marathon I’m raising money for them 💚
