ARC Boston Marathon 2011 - rowing for Down's Syndrome Oxford

Event date: 18th September 2011

Matt Robinson is raising money for Down's Syndrome Oxford

My story

16/09/11 Thanks to everyone for your sponsorship and support. Regrettably we learned late last night that this year's race has been cancelled. (See britishrowing.org/news/boston-rowing-marathon-cancelled)

But all is not lost; to honour our commitment to your sponsorship we will instead on Sunday be rowing from our home club at Abingdon down the Thames to Reading, which is coincidentally exactly the same distance of 31 miles. It will take quite a bit longer however, as we will have to go through (not around) eight locks along the way.

I hope that you feel this is an adequate and appropriate alternative. We won't be racing for a time against other crews sadly, but we will be putting in the same effort. Plus the Thames is a lot less straight, so the chances of my crashing the boat (I am steering as well as rowing) are vastly increased.

It will be a great day on the Thames (if not a little wet and windy).

In September 2011 a crew from Abingdon Rowing Club will compete in the Boston Rowing Marathon - an annual head-of-the-river rowing race run over a 50km (31 mile) course on the River Witham between Lincoln and Boston. Richard Maynard, Marcus Nurton, Steve Tassell and Matt Robinson will be raising much needed funds for a local Oxfordshire charity, Down's Syndrome Oxford.

Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Down's Syndrome Oxford.
