My story

Both parts of our challenge have now taken place. The minus 40 part was in March and the second part, plus 40, took place in October, when Ed & Phil ran 150 miles in six stages over seven days in the Kalahari Desert where temperatures were in excess of 40 degrees.

For the minus 40 we took part in the 6633 ultra in the Arctic so the Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon was a complete contrast.

The minus 40 didn't quite go as planned. Ed was pulled out with frostbite and although Phil managed to go further, he was forced to withdraw with hypothermia.

The plus 40 went rather better, with both of us finishing, although not without unexpected difficulties. Phil caught an unpleasant virus just before the start and struggled to finish each day, so to complete the distance became a particularly tough mental challenge. Ed also suffered from a cold in the last days to make life harder for him too.

Given the especially demanding toughness of both events on us both, we would particularly appreciate your generous support for COCO to make all the suffering that much more worth while!

Details of the events can be found at 6633ultra.com and extrememarathons.com. Our challenge website can be found at minus2plus40.com
