Ellie Runs Edinburgh

Event date: 28th May 2017

Ellie Dibben is raising money for The Farm Animal Sanctuary

My story

On 28th May I will be running the Edinburgh Marathon for Hillside Farm Animal Sanctuary, and I need your help!

Hillside Animal Sanctuary was founded in 1995 to help and campaign for animals in need and to bring public awareness to the millions of animals suffering in the intensive factory farming industry. It is now home to over 2000 animals and is one of the UK's most successful campaigning organisations for the animals' cause. Hillside is solely financed by donations from the public which are used to feed and care for its rescued animals. I'm therefore hoping to raise money for Hillside though committing to run 26.2 miles- something that I never thought I'd be able to achieve! Any sponsorship will go directly to the charity and be of huge help to both animals living there and those still suffering, so please donate what you can.

Every year over 56 billion farmed animals are killed, and this does not include fish and other sea creatures whose deaths are so great they are only measured in tonnes. That's the same as more than eight times the human population of the world. Through remaining complacent and failing to recognise the rights of other living, feeling beings, we contribute everyday to their suffering and enslavement for the sake of our own taste and convenience. Conditions on factory farms are incomprehensible, with farmed animals spending their prematurely shortened lives suffering whilst we sign petitions against fur and dog meat, failing to recognise the hypocrisy of our actions. This is why sanctuaries such as Hillside are so important.

I have spent the past six months training for this marathon and the past year living an animal friendly lifestyle, and I hope that you will give what you can to an amazing cause.
