My story
I am running the 'Percy Pud' 10K on Sunday 1 December, for the charity, SPaCE, which supports children, young people and families in Gaza. The childrens centres in Gaza that SPaCE supports, like the Never Stop Dreaming Centre, have been destroyed by Israel’s bombardment. SPaCE is raising funds for the workers of the Never Stop Dreaming Centre to support children, many of them orphans, through outreach activities in the camps of the displaced people. Further information about the charity is on the link below. This work is alongside the Emergency Fund, Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign has been running for the last year providing food, blankets, clothes and tents to families being constantly displaced.
I was born and live in Britain, the country that supported the establishment of the State of Israel in Palestine over 75 years ago. If I had been born, instead, in Palestine, I may have lived all my 75 years as a refugee within the tiny Gaza Strip, with my children and my grandchildren, having no right of movement or self-determination. The ongoing resilience and determination of the Palestinian people for peace and justice is awe-inspiring in face of decades-long siege and regular bombardment of Gaza, and escalating violence on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. But the genocide being committed by Israel over the last year is beyond endurance. Many thousands of children have been killed, hurt, orphaned, displaced, living in tents, and facing yet another winter under continual attack and no safe place to go. The death roll in Gaza over the last year has reached over 43,000, with an estimated 120,000 injured. Many more dead are still under the rubble of destroyed homes, hospitals, schools, universities, mosques - no part of the tiny 26x7 miles of the Gaza strip is safe.
Please donate what you can. I am running slower and slower every year, but I only have my pride to lose, not my life. My target is to finish the race, and to raise £1,000 to support children and families in Gaza.
