Essex Cycle Ride in aid of the Lord's Taverners

Event date: 12th October 2023

Jonathan Burch is raising money for The Lord's Taverners

My story

I have supported the Taverner's for some 5 years and am proud to be involved in a charity event in order to ensure that we can deliver the benefits that this wonderful charity offers across Essex.

The Tav's work across the UK and beyond to provide inclusive and impactful cricket programmes, empowering young people with disabilities and from disadvantaged communities to develop the knowledge, skills, capabilities and confidence required to overcome the challenges of inequality, raise their aspirations and reach their potential.

I have seen this firsthand through the table cricket initiatives supporting a number of schools within our region and feel that post pandemic, re-establishing the work provided by the Lord's Taverner's locally is key. One of our initiatives is to provide table cricket to all SEN schools on patch. These cost £250 to supply and £250 to train the staff so that each school can be self-sufficient and support their pupils through this fabulous sport!!!!

It was originally our intention to raise funds by taking part in an event organised in Brighton earlier in the year but sadly this was cancelled, and we found it difficult to find a suitable alternative. With this in mind we decided to create our own event and as such we will be cycling from Colchester to Chelmsford via Witham and Braintree visiting 4 schools along the way ending with a gathering of supports at Essex Cricket Ground. (Please feel free to join us at the end !!!). The event is on the 12th of October, so I better get training again!

Thank you to those who have supported me already, your donations have been held safely and have been transferred on to this challenge. For those who haven't any help that you can provide is greatly appreciated.
