Our story

The NHS England Estates Team’s Summer of Sport fundraising challenge is to cover 12,000 miles in total and raise £2,500, over the course of June, July and August, in aid of our team's charities this year: Macmillan Cancer Support and Shelter.

In support of this, Andy Summerbell, Paul Davis and Tim Winter, from the national Estates EPRR Team, each aim to travel on foot the equivalent distance from the southern-most RAAC site to the northern-most one in England, a total of 613.16km.

Our updates

End of August - the walking keeps going!

First of all, a massive thank you to all those who have given so generously, taking us almost to our target by the end of the month! The Gift Aid total is expected to bring us nicely over that target!

There has been varied progress with the distance achieved by the 3 of us: Tim has clocked up an impressive 736km, Andy has travelled a total of 257km, while Paul has only managed 157km so far. Some have unkindly suggested that this is indicative of how busy the other 2 are, while Tim insists that his distance achieved merely reflects the demands of his young Labrador!

Paul and Andy have both committed to keep going until they reach the 613.16km total by the end of October, to justify the generosity of our sponsors!

June Progress!

Tim has got off to a flying start with 230km covered - knowing that he will have periods over the summer when he will get little opportunity to get out for walks!

Paul was away at the start of the month, so has clocked up 34km, despite regularly forgetting to record his walks on STRAVA!

Andy has had a slow start with 10km this month, largely down to work pressures and in the knowledge that he'll be able to make up for this over the coming months!

With an average of 204km each month to meet our target, we'll have to see how "The tortoise and the hare" scenario pans out!!

A massive thanks to all those who have generously sponsored us already - please keep on the pressure for us to reach our target!
