Why I’m Taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge for Flipside CIC

This year, I’m taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge - climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon in just 24 hours - to raise funds for Flipside CIC, where I’m proud to serve as Operations, Funding & Delivery Management Director.

I’ve done this challenge twice before, but not for over ten years. I won’t lie: I’m both excited and a little nervous. The Three Peaks is a tough event, physically exhausting, mentally demanding, and relentless. Long hours, steep climbs, unpredictable weather, and barely any sleep. But that’s exactly why preparation and training matter, and why I’m ready to put in the work. I know the feeling of hitting that point where your legs burn, your mind says “stop,” and yet you keep going, and it’s also when you realise what you’re capable of. And of course, standing on those summits, feeling that mix of exhaustion and awe, is indescribable.

But I’m not doing this for me. I’m doing it for something much bigger.
The funds I raise will help launch Flip Forward, our pilot programme supporting people who have faced some of life’s toughest challenges, including homelessness, addiction, long-term unemployment, poor mental health, and more. People who, day in and day out, show a courage that makes climbing mountains feel small in comparison.

Flip Forward will help people stabilise, rebuild confidence, develop life skills, and take steps toward meaningful work. And we don’t just walk away, we stay alongside them, helping them grow, sustain, and truly thrive.

Our work is inspired by the lived experience of our founders, Jo Brooker and David Kaufman. Their story began with a chance encounter outside a Sainsbury’s, where David was homeless. That moment changed everything. Not just for him, but eventually for everyone we hope to support through Flipside.
I know this challenge will push me. It will be tough. But it’s nothing compared to what the people we’re here to help face every day. That’s why your support matters. Every donation, every word of encouragement, helps us turn this challenge into something that really makes a difference.
