Hadrian's Wall Walk

Event dates: 22nd July 2009 – 31st December 2009

Fran Reader is raising money for SUFFOLK YOUNG PEOPLE'S HEALTH PROJECT

My story

Dr Fran Goes up the Wall

Take one wall that dates back to the 2nd century and one retired Suffolk health professional and combine for the ultimate challenge for one of the trustees of Suffolk Young People?s Health Project (aka 4YP).

4YP aims to improve the emotional, physical and social health and well-being of young people aged between 12 and 25. through managing, delivering and co-ordinating a wide range of support services, from an open access centre in Ipswich town centre. We are a registered charity and company limited by guarantee providing advice and support on major issues identified by young people themselves including: sexual health, substance abuse, mental health diet and obesity.

We provide drop-in activities, counselling, a sexual health clinic, cookery sessions, shower and laundry facilities, access to the internet, help with finding employment/education opportunities, work experience and volunteering opportunities all geared to improving life skills for young people.

Dr Fran and 3 friends will start walking from Carlisle on Thursday morning September 24th and will walk 65 miles (105 Km) to Wallsend by the evening of Monday September 28th. My friends are Dee Hall, Sue Readhead and Sally Payne. We are all mature ladies aged between 49-59!!

The Roman Emperor Hadrian began building the wall in AD 122 to mark the northern frontier of the Roman Empire and prevent raids on Roman territory by marauding Scottish tribes from the north and therefore improve economic stability in the south.
