Jonathan Shaw is raising money for Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team
On Sunday 10 May 2026 I am accepting the Fred Whitton Challenge, a 111 mile road cycling event over the highest passes in the Lake District. Bonkers, because having signed up more in bravado than good sense I am now realising quite how challenging this will be. Hence my chosen charity, as I have a feeling I may be in need of their services if this proves as challenging as I suspect it will be.
With mental health a growing curse, especially amongst the young, we should be encouraging people to take to the hills, a proven therapy for challenged minds. But the hills are not risk free; indeed that is part of their appeal and benefit. All the more need to make sure the safety net is there to help when required. That is where this charity comes in: “prepared to help others 24 hours a day 365 days a year in any weather”. Fabulous! All donations, however small, will be gratefully received.
Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team.
