My story

Hello all , so we are gonna undertake Welsh 3000s challenge to raise Autism awareness and support Blackmarston School in Hereford .

Blackmarston School is a specialist setting that explicitly supports children  with Autism Spectrum Disorder .

What is Autism !

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) , is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition that affects how people perceive the world , communicate and relate to others .It's called a spectrum because every autistic person is different , some need significant support , while others live more independently .

People with autism may experience challenges with social interaction or communication , prefer routines and predictability , have intense interests or passions , respond differently to sights, sounds or touch (sensory processing).

But autism is also about strengths such as honesty , creativity , focus and unique ways of thinking .

Why it matters !

At places like Blackmarston School , children with autism are supported to thrive through specialist teaching approaches , sensory friendly environments , compassionate staff who meet each child at their level .

Autism isn't something to "fix" its a different way of experiencing the world.

Events like this help raise awareness , funding and most importantly , understanding .

ONE MESSAGE TO REMEMBER

"Autism is not disability, it's a different ability " with the right support , autistic individuals can flourish and that's why Blackmarston School matters .

About the challenge !

The Welsh 3000s, also known as the 15 Peaks Challenge, is a grueling hiking challenge in Snowdonia, Wales, involving the ascent of all 15 mountains over 3,000 feet (914 meters) in height. These peaks are located within three main ranges: the Snowdon Massif, the Glyderau, and the Carneddau.

Key aspects of the Welsh 3000s challenge:

  • 15 Peaks:
The challenge focuses on completing the 15 mountains within Snowdonia that exceed 3,000 feet.
  • Distance and Ascent:
The length of this challenge (from the first peak to the last) is about 26 miles (42 km), but including the walk to and from any start point, it will total some 30 miles (48 km) hiking with approximately 3,100 meters (10,170 feet) of elevation gain.
  • Timeframe:
     In under 24 hours
