Davy Blackburn is raising money for The Redwoods Caring Foundation
I have entered the Loch Ness 24 to raise money for Redwoods new project - the Cedars in Haddington. Having taken up running 6 years ago, this will be the longest ever challenge for me. I felt that doing a routine run would not be much of a challenge, so set myself this 24-hour goal to cover as many miles as possible which hopefully emulates the extra miles carers go every day in helping others to live fulfilled lives. I would ask you to support this new venture of The Redwoods Caring Foundation to establish a new supported house in Haddington.
You can find out about the Loch Ness 24 here - lochness24.co.uk/
Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto The Redwoods Caring Foundation.
Most people will know already how I got on, but if not here is update on race. The weather was not bad, mostly sun and some showers, but the trees gave some prorection to both. I needed 17 laps for 70 mile target and I hit that in the last hour covering 74 miles in 24.20 hours. As a result I came 29th of the 151 solo runnners/walkers and that was probably the best result I have ever had.
Thanks to everyone who sponsored me
and of course donations to Redwooss will always be welcome. The total raised was just over double the original £500 target and will help get The Cedars up to scratch for the three identified tenants. I hope I have also inspired people to go beyond what they think they are limited to and not put barriers on self improvement.
Thanks to everyone who has donated so far. Only two weeks to go and I go and sprain my already sore foot in training, so swimming and infoor cycling replacing running for the next week or so. But this isn't about me, it's about getting a new home ready for people with disabilities who wish to live as independently as possible and hopefully more will donate to this good cause. I will give update closer to the race. I have set 7o miles as a target but as I've never done more than 31 miles at one time I have to see how the fatigue affects the body. If you think this is easy, think how you feel after walking 4 hours up town on a shopping trip. 😁
