My story

Give Hope to Young Pregnant Women Living with HIV in Sierra Leone

Because no mother should give birth in fear.

In Sierra Leone, becoming a mother is often a matter of courage, not choice.
For many young women — some as young as 15 — pregnancy arrives hand in hand with poverty, stigma, and a devastating diagnosis: HIV-positive.

These young women are not statistics.
They are daughters, students, wives, and survivors — carrying both new life and the heavy burden of fear that their babies might be born with the same infection that already shapes their own lives.

The Harsh Reality

Despite global advances in HIV prevention, Sierra Leone remains one of the most challenging places in the world to give birth safely.

Over one in every 40 pregnant women is living with HIV.

Less than half receive consistent antenatal care or HIV treatment.

Many are teenagers, abandoned or shamed by their communities, and unable to afford care.

Without treatment, the risk of transmitting HIV from mother to child is as high as 45%.

But with proper medication and care, that risk drops to less than 1%.

That’s the difference your support can make — from almost certain infection to almost total protection.

Mini’s Village Foundation: Where Hope Begins

Mini’s Village Foundation (MVF) is a UK-registered charity working at the heart of maternal health in Lungi, Sierra Leone.
Our mission is simple yet powerful:

> To give every young woman — regardless of her HIV status or social background — the chance to give birth safely, live with dignity, and raise a healthy, HIV-free child.
Through our HIV Prevention and Maternal Care Programme, we provide:

Free HIV testing and counselling for all expectant mothers.

Access to life-saving antiretroviral therapy (ART) to prevent mother-to-child transmission.

Nutritional and emotional support, including vitamins, prenatal food packs, and mental health guidance.

Safe delivery support through trained midwives and community health volunteers.

Postnatal care and infant HIV testing, ensuring every baby has the best chance to grow HIV-free.

Community education and outreach to dismantle stigma and encourage early testing.

#Our small clinic in Lungi currently serves over 250 women each month, but hundreds more remain out of reach — trapped by distance, poverty, and silence.

The Silent Suffering of Young Mothers

Every day, we meet young women like Hawa, aged 17.
When Hawa found out she was pregnant, she hid it. When she discovered she was HIV-positive, she stopped eating for days.
She feared her baby would die before birth — or be born only to suffer as she had.

When she came to Mini’s Village Foundation, weak and terrified, we embraced her with care.
Through counselling and treatment, Hawa regained hope.
Her baby girl, Amie, was born HIV-free.

Hawa now volunteers at our clinic, sharing her story with other young mothers and reminding them that HIV is not the end of life — it is a call to compassion.
💫 Why We Need Your Help Now

Our goal is to reach 1,000 young pregnant women living with HIV across Sierra Leone within the next two years.
But to do that, we urgently need to expand our capacity — more test kits, more medication, more outreach nurses, and more community education.

Here’s how your support can change lives:

Your Gift What It Achieves

£25 HIV testing, counselling, and antenatal screening for one young woman.
£50 One month of ART medication for both a mother and her baby.
£100 Safe delivery, infant HIV testing, and follow-up for mother and child.
£250 Full maternal HIV prevention package for 5 pregnant women.
£500 One month of field outreach to identify and support 20 rural mothers.
£1,000 Funds a maternal HIV prevention campaign across an entire community.

Each contribution, no matter how small, is a promise of life, dignity, and hope.
💖 Our Vision for the Next Five Years

By 2030, Mini’s Village Foundation aims to:

Establish three community-based HIV Maternal Health Centres across Sierra Leone.

Provide free HIV care, treatment, and nutrition for over 10,000 women and children.

Ensure zero transmission of HIV from mother to child in all our project areas.

Help Us Power Life-Saving Healthcare in Lungi, Sierra Leone

Right now in Lungi, a community of thousands cannot rely on the most basic requirement for healthcare: electricity.

Mini’s Village Foundation (MVF) is transforming our clinic in Lungi into a safe, modern healthcare centre — but without a stable power supply, we cannot operate essential equipment, refrigerate vaccines, run diagnostic tools, or provide urgent care during the night.

When the power goes out, lives are put at risk.
Women in labour deliver in darkness. Children with infections cannot be treated without delay. Patients living with HIV, Hepatitis B, and tuberculosis may miss lifesaving medicines due to poor storage conditions.

We believe every person deserves safe healthcare — day or night.
That is why MVF is launching the Solarisation of Lungi Clinic Project: an innovative, renewable energy solution that will:

✅ Provide 24/7 electricity for emergency care
✅ Power critical medical equipment and refrigeration
✅ Support digital medical records and diagnostics
✅ Reduce reliance on costly, polluting generators
✅ Ensure continuity of care for the most vulnerable

To make this possible, we urgently need your support.

Your gift today will power hope

£50 supports vaccine refrigeration for a month

£100 powers equipment for HIV, TB & Hepatitis care

£250+ directly funds panels, batteries & installation

£1,000+ becomes a Founding Solar Donor with recognition on our clinic honour board

Together, we can light up healthcare

With your compassion, the Lungi clinic will become the first fully solar-powered community health centre dedicated to infectious diseases and preventive healthcare in the region.
