Glasgow Saints Ultra-marathon (838km)

GSFC are an amateur football team based in Dennistoun, Glasgow, committed to combining grassroots football with community and charity work from our players, supporters and volunteers.

Lockdown has confined people to their homes, brought about an end to social groups and clubs, and further divided our communities. Separation feeds suspicion and the danger of a shift in focus towards an ‘us and them’ mentality becomes very real. In fact, we know this exists already.

At GSFC our philosophy is very simple. We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind. Through this approach we hope to provide a positive example, not only within our sport but in our community. We are unapologetic and will champion anyone and any action that opposes normalised discrimination and casual intolerance.

With this in mind; we have decided to fundraise for an anti-discrimination cause. As a club we have challenged ourselves physically by cumulatively running a virtual 838 kilometres tour of all twelve Scottish Premiership Stadiums. All donations of support raised during this event will be donated to the organisation, Nil By Mouth.

Nil By Mouth was founded after the brutal sectarian murder of Mark Scott, a 16 year old football fan making his way home after a game, targeted simply due to the colour of his scarf. Mark was murdered because of sectarian hatred. This hate is still at large in our communities. It’s embedded in our society and growing online. Now is the time for action, and youth education initiatives such as Nil by Mouth’s 'Champions for Change' can bring understanding and lasting change.
