Richard Lynch-Smith is raising money for Sheffield Palestine Cultural Exchange
In the 24 hours prior to writing these words, Israeli forces have killed 93 Palestinians and injured 142. Since the start of the war, 31,819 have been killed and 74,934 injured (source: Medical Aid for Palestinians). These are war crimes, this is a genocide: it couldn’t be clearer.
With the violence showing no sign of abating, and famine seemingly approaching in northern Gaza, it would be easy to feel hopeless. We simply cannot let this take hold: it is more important than ever to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Since moving to Sheffield last year I’ve found comrades in the Palestine solidarity movement. I have also got to know fantastic organisations working to resist, raise awareness, and improve lives in Gaza and the Occupied Territories.
Sheffield Palestine Cultural Exchange (SPaCE) is one of these. They have worked to build links on the ground and provide funds to improve health, play and cultural facilities for young people.
On the 7th April, I will be joining a team of runners raising funds for them in the Sheffield Half Marathon. This will be my first half - my knees are not remotely happy about it but I’m determined to get round.
I would be grateful for any donation you can offer. Thank you for reading.
Rich
