Susie's Half Marathon for the Arrowe Park Neonatal Unit

Event date: 12th May 2013

Susie Holt / Palmer is raising money for WUTH Charity

My story

I spent the last three years working on the Neonatal Unit at the Wirral University Teaching Hospital (Arrowe Park). The Neonatal Unit has 24 cots and provides specialised care for babies from around 24 weeks of pregnancy. Many of the babies are born early (premature). However some babies born around the time they are due (term) can have problems too, some requiring a brief stay and others a more intensive, longer stay.
I learnt so much from the doctors, nurses, ANPs, midwives, health care assistants, ward clerks, secretaries and other members of staff. The are an incredible group of professionals to whom I am very indebted. I miss them! I also learnt a huge amount from the babies and their families, and it was through discussion with them that the idea for 'i see you' was conceived.
We designed a website that we hope will further improve the parents experience during what is a very difficult time. The nurses will upload photographs each day to a secure website. The parents can access their baby's photographs from any computer. They can also share these pictures with family/friends who may not be able to visit in person. When a baby is discharged, they get a DVD copy of their 'baby journey.' In the sad event of a baby dying, the DVD goes into their memory box.
The success of the website relies on great photographs being taken in less than ideal conditions. I am therefore raising money to buy 3 cameras, 3 flashes & memory cards etc to have in each room of the Neonatal Unit. If there is any money left over, it will go to the neonatal unit to help them continue their excellent work.
Thanks for supporting me.
