Jamie White Ride 25 Leg 14

Hi Everyone, 

Thanks for reading my page. After saying I would not do a ride this year I joined the process late - about 8 weeks ago. This year is India - a ride across Rajasthan.  This year is a 5 day ride and not as hilly as previous years.....phew but this is made up for with longer days. It is basically 160km a day with a casual 197km on the last day. This will be the longest ride I have ever done in a day. It promises to be long days in the saddle, hopefully not as hot as last year and fast pelotons. Not sure if I prefer slow and steady or trying to steam along.....time will tell! 
The ride as ever is to support a charity called 1moreChild. This was set up by 2 Brits who happened to work in Uganda. It takes street children and provides school, medicine, food and opportunities to lift them from a life in the streets. Over 200 of these children have come out of the other side with a significantly better life then they could ever have hoped for and have gone on to find jobs, support the charity and some have even gone into cycling - many to compete for Uganda. It is a very small charity with no overheads - the founder does the ride with us. All money raised goes directly to the charity. So far nearly £2million has been raised off the back of personal sponsorship and corporate sponsors on our shirts. 

Having come at this late I have been trying to play catch up with the training which has been difficult due to the dark and the weather. I have been on an bike 38 out of the last 42 days - the legs are starting to creak and I'm off to the physio today with a calf tweak. What am I worried about?....the long days in the saddle. I already have "cyclists neck" and my longest ride in training is 3 hours - I think the last few hours each day are going to hurt. It will be between 6-8 hours a day in the saddle. The chamois cream is packed! 

If you were able to donate something to the charity that would be great, I appreciate times are tough and I have asked before but £20 covers 1 child for a month. For those interested I will update with a daily blog and photos of the ride and the chaos that will be trying to ride 500miles across India including going into a couple of cities. I hope the cows respond well to the sound of my voice.
