My story
Support My Outlaw Half Holkham Challenge for DEBRA UK – 6th July 2025
On the 6th of July, I’ll be taking on the Outlaw Half Holkham triathlon, a tough but exciting challenge that combines swimming, cycling and running – all in one event. This will be my first multi-discipline event, and I’m doing it in support of DEBRA UK.
Over the past few years, I’ve taken part in a number of events for DEBRA, including the Great North Run and Swim Serpentine. I've also undertaken other runs, swims and cycle rides at various distances. Each time I’ve pushed myself, it’s been with a clear purpose: to raise awareness and funds for those living with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) – a rare and incredibly painful genetic skin condition that DEBRA supports - debra.org.uk
When I first started fundraising for DEBRA, I didn’t know much about EB. But the more I learned, the more determined I became to do what I could to help. EB is a condition that causes the skin to blister and tear at the slightest touch. There is currently no cure, and for those affected – many of them children – there is no respite. Everyday tasks most of us take for granted can cause unbearable pain. It’s not just those living with EB who are affected – their families face daily challenges too. The strength and resilience they show is inspiring, and it’s what drives me to keep going when training gets tough. I can't imagine as a parent what it must be like to see your children suffer knowing there is no cure or relief for them.
Taking on the Outlaw Half Holkham is a personal milestone – bringing together all three disciplines I’ve taken on in the past into one endurance challenge involving a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile cycle and a half marathon all within a 9 hour time limit. But it’s more than just a personal goal, it’s an opportunity to raise vital funds so DEBRA can continue supporting individuals and families with EB, and investing in the research that could one day lead to effective treatments or even a cure.
If you can, please consider donating. Every contribution makes a difference – whether it’s helping a family access vital support, funding specialist nurses, or supporting groundbreaking research.
Thank you for your support – it means more than you know.
