My story

Thanks Dad, for everything.
Over the years you have given so much more than it would be reasonable to ask for. You've always been there for us, showing your love. Sometimes you were tolerant and patient, giving and kind. Other times you were intolerant and tough - but always we knew your heart was in the right place, striving to make us the best that we could be.
To be honest, I'm right proud to call you my Dad. You always spoke your mind and people knew where they stood with you. In that respect, a marvellous role model. Also, you were a diligent and extremely hard working sort of chap, right from the age that kids today are only starting to think about what they might like to do when they grow up. At 14 you were already working longer hours than I do now! In that respect also, a fantastic role model.
We all know the last year has been tough for you, yet through all of it you held your head high and surprised us all with your fortitude, strength and positive frame of mind - and courage too - truly remarkable!
And now, you are where you want to be, and we are happy for you. Happy to have had you as our Dad. Thanks again mate, and well done on living a great life.

Mum, as we say goodbye, I would just like to say thank you. You have lived a life so full of love and service.
As a wife, who could possibly have asked for more? When you promised to love, honour and obey, who could have imagined that you would keep that promise for over 60 years? You have given our father so much love and support, and yes, at times tolerance, but hey, you did marry a Gautrey didn't you!
As a mother, wow! Of course the money was tight, but we never went without. With so many of us you worked tirelessly covering our every need. Placing us first and yourself last. I know all you wanted was for us to be happy. you taught us the meaning of love and forgiveness.
As a grandmother (and greatgrandmother), your love just kept coming, closely followed by the little bootie production line. The knitting needles forever clicking. If I am honest, some of the colours were a little, well, vivid - but we loved them all the more.
And not forgetting your role as a daughter and sister. I know for sure that you loved them dearly, and supported all of them as much as you could. Of course I don't know so much about your early life, but we will dig out your book and have a good read, and a chuckle or two I am sure!
As a friend, you were always there. Your supportive words, encouragement and companionship were ceaseless. When I was a child I marvelled at your schedule of visits, always available for those around our community who needed help. You were always there for people. Even just the other week, as soon as you could walk around the ward in Cheltenham, the nurses had to keep a close eye on your whereabouts as you busied yourself chatting to everyone else there. Giving your words of encouragement, visiting those who were alone, comforting those who were scared.
Mum, you were a tower of strength with a heart of gold.
And know this, you will long remain and inspiration to all of us. A role model of unconditional love. Let us all take strength from that, and do our best to continue what you have started!
Now, mum, rest in peace, and thank you.
