Kathryn and Keila run the Bupa 10k

Event date: 25th May 2014

Kathryn Sobczak is raising money for Brentford FC Community Sports Trust

My story

On Sunday May 25th my friend Keila and I will be attempting to run the Bupa 10k in Central London. We will be raising money for the Ealing Young Carers Project, run by Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, where I currently work as the Young Carers Project Co-ordinator.

Young Carers are children and young people who look after someone in their family who has an illness, a disability or is affected by mental ill-health or substance misuse. Some young carers may undertake high levels of care, whereas for others it may be frequent low levels of care. Either can impact heavily on a child or young person.

The Ealing Young Carers Project provides information and advice, fun activities in school holidays, regular after school clubs, lunch clubs, homework clubs and one to one support. The project is a chance for the young carers to have a break from their caring role and to meet other young people who are in a similar situation.

This is a cause close to both of our hearts as we both grew up as young carers and attended a young carers project in our local area. As previous participants of a young carers project we both understand the importance of having a place specifically for young carers where they can have a chance to meet other young people who are caring and to have a break from their caring role.

Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Brentford FC Community Sports Trust.
