Our story

The plan for our fourth challenge, the '7 in 7 in 7 Challenge' is to run 7 ultra marathons in 7 cities in 7 days with an extra mile each day that will show our support for the MND community.

The hope is to raise £777,777 inspired again by our friend, Rob Burrow, and his playing number 7.

We will start the first run at AMT Headingley Rugby Stadium, in Leeds and run to York Minister. On day 2, we will be running in Cardiff, on day 3 in Birmingham, then Edinburgh, Dublin, Brighton and finishing on day 7 in London.

The money raised, in honour of Rob Burrow, the late Doddie Weir, Stephen Darby, Ed Slater, and the 5,500 other people living with MND in the UK and the Republic of Ireland right now, will support the fight against MND. As we embark on this ultra challenge, it doesn’t even touch the challenges that people with MND face every day.

We are proud to be supporting five charities with this challenge, charities which support people affected by MND and invest in research taking us closer to effective treatments and a cure for the disease. Our previous challenges have shown how much this country cares and we hope you can support us once again.

The MND Association will receive 41% of the money raised. This will enable the MND Association to continue its work across the country, which crucially includes supporting local groups and directly helping families who are dealing with the day to day realities of MND.

Leeds Hospitals Charity will benefit from 41% of the money raised to help build the Rob Burrow Centre for MND.

Three other MND Charities will receive 6% of the money raised, ensuring that help and support reaches people with MND in other areas. They are:

The Darby Rimmer MND Foundation which funds and assists research into the disease and is creating a network to help provide support for people diagnosed with MND.

Irish MND Association which provides essential care and support for people with MND, their families and carers.

My Name'5 Doddie Foundation which funds research into the causes of MND and potential treatments while also supporting families affected by MND.

Thank you for supporting us; together we can make a difference to the lives of people with motor neurone disease.

We’ve done it. 7 days, 7 cities and 7 ultra marathons completed. It’s been an incredible week meeting so many members of the MND community from across the UK and Ireland. To top it off, we’ve woken up this morning to the news that we’ve exceeded our target. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your ongoing support during these past seven days. It has been so tough - the travelling, the weather, the toll on our bodies, but you have all kept us going.
Thank you for donating to this challenge and for your continued support in raising even more to help our cause - we are keen to see the donations and where they end up. Together we can make a real difference to the lives of people with MND, and your donations and continued support are helping us shift the dial and take us closer to a cure for this disease. On behalf of the 7in7in7 team – Thank you.

We’re on the final push of the 7 in 7 in 7. Our bodies and minds are busted but as I’ve said before, what we’re going through is nothing compared to someone who is living with MND. We felt so privileged yesterday in Brighton to have the opportunity to complete the Extra Mile alongside so many people living with MND. And the welcome we got from Brighton College at the end was something special. If you can donate, even just a little, please do – it makes such a difference to the MND community. Now onto London for the final leg.

We were in Dublin for less than 24 hours but it was a truly special experience. It was an honour and a pleasure to be joined by Charlie Bird from the Extra Mile event for our final 8k and for Irish rugby stars Tommy Bowe, Ian Madigan, Gordon D’Arcy and Keith Earls to join us. Like my mate Rob, Charlie has also shared his experiences of living with MND with the public to raise awareness of this awful disease. It was great to see Charlie and everyone else who came out to support, and to know we’ve hit 50% of our £777,777 target has been a real boost to the team. We go again today in Brighton.

It was great to be back in Edinburgh for another leg of our 7 in 7 in 7 challenge and it was honour to be joined by Doddie’s wife, Kathy for the Extra Mile. The weather has not been kind to us for the past few days and it is becoming tougher and tougher on the legs, but we’re now over half way with Dublin, Brighton and London to go. Thanks again for all of your support.

Thank you to the hundreds of you who have donated to this page and helped us raise a third of our £777,777 target. Yesterday was tough on the team and we had to dig deep. The weather was horrendous, but we met some lovely people on the way and we’re ready to go again today. We’re doing this for the 5500 people living with MND in the UK and Republic of Ireland right now and every penny you can donate will make a huge difference.
