Supporting Kibera Celtic Foundation

Event dates: 16th May 2012 – 31st December 2013

Kibera Celtic is raising money for Celtic FC Foundation

My story

I am fundraising, through Celtic Charity Fund, for the Kibera Celtic Foundation (Kibera Celtic FC), a registered charity in Kenya which was established in 2008 as a self help programme, linking sport with small business development, AIDS awareness and other community programmes, including health and education. Central to the Foundation's raison d'etre is the promotion of multi-tribalism, seeking to provide an example of co-operation across Kenya's many and varied tribes.

The Football Club is called Kibera Celtic after Celtic FC, which was established to feed the poor in the East End of Glasgow. The similarities between the two clubs is striking.

Kibera Celtic has no religious, ethnic or political allegiances. The Football Club currently has 1 mens team and 1 womens team, with 25 players in each squad. The mens team has had 3 promotions in a row and is currently in Nationwide Division 1, just below the top Premier division.

Kibera is the largest slum in Africa and Kibera Celtic is already a beacon of light and hope for the young people of Kibera. As the players are held in high esteem in the slum, it is our intention to employ the mens and womens teams full-time in order to start the youth academy and to commence work on community issues. Due to the low level of wages they cannot afford to do it in their spare time. The average wage in Kibera is £1 per day.

Your support will be invaluable.
