My story

And I need all the support I can get!

Two years ago, after 46 hours of labour and an emergency c-section, my beautiful little girl Reya was born. We found out there and then that she has Down syndrome, which came as a huge surprise. We joined an amazing community, who support each other and constantly remind us that Reya's difference is also what makes her special. She is very special.

Last year, my husband Drew and I decided we would not try for another baby. We would be a family of three. Suddenly I had 9 months to fill and decided that, in the year I turned 40, I would set myself the ultimate challenge of running a marathon. Like labour, I would get through it one way or another, but hopefully not take 46 hours!

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, when I will be running the Yorkshire Marathon on Sunday 15 October.

I am fundraising for two amazing DS charities: Downright Excellent and Positive About Down Syndrome, organisations that help children and families with Down syndrome to thrive.

I am not a runner. I am fully expecting this experience to be painful and prolonged. But as I watch my little one trying to walk - trying so hard! - while all her friends are already running and jumping, I know this challenge I'm undertaking is worth it.

If you can donate, Reya, Drew, I and the other families you will help through your support, will all be immensely grateful.

Thank you!
