My story

To support the work and raise awareness of mental health charity Reclaim Life. Harry Sear and Paul Harold are going to drive their 100 year old Talbot car Lavinia 3500 miles around the coastline of Britain. In South Bedfordshire, the voluntary organisation Reclaim Life has, through their unique model of therapeutic life coaching, helped over 2,000 people suffering emotional crisis. On their stop overs Harry and Paul are going to tell the Reclaim Life story to inspire others to be trained and bring Reclaim Life to their communities. "If each of us healed a neighbour then the whole world would be healed."   reclaimlife.net.  Reg charity 1138735

My updates

And that’s a wrap on Day 16. This morning, Lavinia, Harry and Paul departed from Edinburgh. There was a good view of Edinburgh Castle from the Braid Hills Hotel before they left. From Edinburgh they travelled south, crossing over the border, back into England and made it down to Berwick-upon-Tweed in good time. A shorter journey today which was much appreciated by all.

The sun came out in Berwick around 3pm and it started to warm up a bit. Paul took the opportunity to do a bit of fettling whilst they waited for the YHA to open. Unfortunately there were not many people about today but fingers crossed more people are around for this evening’s community talk.

Day 15 of Lavinia’s Road Trip for Reclaim Life officially marked two weeks on the road for Lavinia, Harry and Paul and started off with a well deserved rest at the hotel in Dundee. After a bit of a later start, Lavinia was up and running like a dream.

The day’s journey took Lavinia, Harry and Paul out of Dundee, over the Tay Bridge, along the A92 and into Fife. In the afternoon they drove along the Queensferry Crossing Bridge, running parallel to the Forth Bridge, with 100-year-old Lavinia still keeping up with the moderns! Parking up in Queensferry, Lavinia attracted lots of interest with Harry and Paul chatting to passersby about Reclaim Life and handing out leaflets. Then it was a little further on to Edinburgh, the night’s stopover point. Another great day on the road!

A quick round up of Day 14 of Lavinia’s Road Trip for Reclaim Life. Lavinia, Harry and Paul started off in Elgin, having travelled down from Wick the day before along the very scenic A9. On Day 14 they travelled even further south, 150 miles to Dundee.

There was a bit of a false start in the morning as they needed to stop to replace a broken HT lead, but otherwise it was a good day driving south, down the Scottish coast, with some beautiful scenery and clear blue skies.

In the evening, Harry and Paul stayed in the Queen’s Hotel where Winston Churchill often stayed between 1908 and 1922 when he was the MP for Dundee.

After breakfast and a quick chat with a few of Lavinia’s admirers in Wick Harbour, it was time for Lavinia, Harry and Paul to get back on the road. Day 13 of Lavinia’s road trip meant heading south along the Scottish coast down, along the very scenic A9 to Inverness. In the afternoon, they turned east to join the A96 into Elgin and made it there in good time.

Once they had arrived in Elgin, Lavinia, Harry and Paul met up with fellow Sunbeam, Talbot and Darracq member, Ian Murray, to have a chat and a look at his collection of pre-war cars. All in all a great day!

Day 12 of Lavinia’s Road Trip for Reclaim Life was another busy day. In the morning, it was time to leave Ullapool for the day’s journey further north to Wick. It was a steep climb for Lavinia but she made it with no problems. On the A835, heading north and later east toward Lairg, the weather started to look a bit bleak. Whilst it wasn’t raining, a recurring problem with a leak at the top of the radiator where the bonnet hinge screws on certainly made it look like it was! A bit more fettling should hopefully fix that.

Onto the A837 and it was a bit of a bumpy ride (especially over the cattle grids). Upon reaching Lairg it was time to join the A839 and then join the A9. Lavinia was motoring along like a beauty throughout the day; she was well and truly flying the flag for the Talbot 14/45! The gorse alongside the A9 was also blooming lovely and it wasn’t long before Lavinia, Harry and Paul cruised through Port Gower village. Finally it was onto Wick, their final destination for the day.

Lavinia, Harry and Paul arrived in Wick in good time. In the evening there was a talk arranged in the Camps Bar to hopefully inspire others to bring Reclaim Life into their local community. Photo from Harry of the view overlooking the river Wick. Truly stunning!
