My story

To support the work and raise awareness of mental health charity Reclaim Life. Harry Sear and Paul Harold are going to drive their 100 year old Talbot car Lavinia 3500 miles around the coastline of Britain. In South Bedfordshire, the voluntary organisation Reclaim Life has, through their unique model of therapeutic life coaching, helped over 2,000 people suffering emotional crisis. On their stop overs Harry and Paul are going to tell the Reclaim Life story to inspire others to be trained and bring Reclaim Life to their communities. "If each of us healed a neighbour then the whole world would be healed."   reclaimlife.net.  Reg charity 1138735

My updates

Day 20 kicked off in Burnham on Crouch in Essex. Whilst Lavinia was warming up for the day, Harry and Paul dialled in to Justin Dealey’s show on BBC Three Counties Radio to give an update on what they had been up to since their last interview. After that, it was time to hit the road for the final time.

It was a beautiful day for the drive from Burnham on Crouch to Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire and Reclaim Life’s HQ. Of course, Harry and Paul made time to stop for the final full English breakfast of the trip at the Cornish Cafe in Harlow.

In the afternoon, they made it back to Leighton Buzzard. At 4.30pm, Lavinia, Harry and Paul made their way down Leighton Buzzard high street, cheered on by the crowd that had gathered to welcome them back. It was a fantastic reception from family, friends, supporters and volunteers from Reclaim Life; Justin Dealey was also in attendance, interviewing Harry and Paul on their return, as well as Leighton Linslade Rotary President and the Town Mayor.

A big thank you to everyone for their continued support and generous donations during the road trip. Lavinia, Harry and Paul covered over 3,000 miles, visiting 18 communities along the way to spread the word about Reclaim Life and raised over £6,000 in donations.

Day 19 started off in Hunstanton and it was another beautiful day for driving, especially through the leafy lanes of Norfolk. It was a quiet morning on the road along the A134 to Thetford with very little traffic. Lavinia, Harry and Paul later drove through Bury St. Edmunds and onto Sudbury, stopping to meet Martin from the TOC at Hennessey’s off the A134.

In the afternoon they reached Maylandsea in Essex ahead of the evening’s community talk. It was a brilliant turn out at the Maylandsea Bay Sailing Club with many people interested in the work of Reclaim Life and possibly setting up a Reclaim Life in the local community. A brilliant final night for Harry and Paul (as well as Lavinia)!

Thank you all for your continued support and generous donations. It is very much appreciated and all donations go directly to Reclaim Life, helping to continue the support they provide in Leighton Buzzard as well as the outreach project of mentoring individuals from other communities in setting up their own Reclaim Life.

It was an early start for Day 18 of Lavinia’s Road Trip for Reclaim Life. Lavinia, Harry and Paul were on the road by 6.20am to leave Scarborough and head down to Hunstanton in Norfolk. Lavinia first made her way up Staxton Hill; a 17% climb successful done, slow but steady. After a quick pit stop, Lavinia then travelled over the Humber Bridge before breakfast and later over the Sutton Bridge near King’s Lynn.

In the afternoon they reached Hunstanton where they had a pitch booked on the green to promote the Reclaim Life Road Trip. Shout out to Linda’s Goddaughter Lorrayne for arranging this! Harry also managed to squeeze in an interview with the local press to talk about the road trip, the journey so far and its mission. A big thank you to Caz and Neil from the TOC for being our hosts in Norfolk.

Today, Day 19, they are headed for Maylandsea in Essex where there will be a community talk this evening at the Maylandsea Bay Sailing Club at 7.30pm.

Thursday will be their last day on the road and time to head back to HQ in Leighton Buzzard. If you would like to join us in celebrating their return we will be at the Black Lion pub in Leighton Buzzard from 4.30pm on Thursday 30th April. We’ll hopefully see you there!

After a promising community talk in Berwick-upon-Tweed and a better than anticipated night's sleep at the YHA, it was time to hit the road again. Day 17 took Lavinia, Harry and Paul further south along the coast, heading for Scarborough. Lavinia has now clocked up over 2,000 miles on this trip, a 100-year-old Talbot 14/45 still keeping up with the moderns!

Lavinia, Harry and Paul first headed out of Berwick on the A1 towards Newcastle, getting a glimpse of the Angel of the North. In the afternoon, there was a stroke of serendipity. After missing a turning and ending up going down and across to Pickering in North Yorkshire, Lavinia, Harry and Paul called in at Mathewsons Classic Car Auctions. Derek Mathewsons from Bangers & Cash was actually there and spoke with Harry and Paul, taking some photos with Lavinia and sharing his knowledge. Harry and Paul also had a little trip about the museum. A brilliant way to end the day!
