Liverpool Cathedral Abseil for Shelter on 7th September 2024

David turns 60 this year and Nathan turns 18; I thought this would be a great thing to do together to celebrate (our daughter Rachel is too young to take part so will taking lots of photos). However, there is also a more personal reason that stems back to growing up in Liverpool.
Shortly after we bought our first house, David and I were at an ATM in Bold Street when a young man approached us; he knew my name but it took me a minute to recognise him. We'd grown up together, he lived in the house directly opposite me in Tuebrook and was a year or two younger; never seemed to get into trouble and was just a typical lad in our neighbourhood. He said his parents kicked him out after finding drugs, he said he wasn't using any more and needed £10 to get a room at the hostel. I don't know what happened to him, I hope things turned out well, but that meeting always reminds me of how one action or decision can change a life.
