Like father, like son! All the best with your first marathon, for a fabulous charity! Have a word with me first though, if you decide to do it in a deep-sea diving suit! Lots of love, Dad xxx
Luke Scott is raising money for Sarcoma UK
This year, I’m running the London Marathon for the first time, and I couldn’t be more excited to take on this challenge for a cause that is deeply personal to me. I’m raising funds for Sarcoma UK, a charity dedicated to supporting those affected by sarcoma and advancing research into this rare and aggressive form of cancer.
The reason this cause means so much to me is because my dad, Lloyd, has been battling an extremely rare cancer called synovial sarcoma over the last couple of years. His resilience and determination throughout his journey have been nothing short of extraordinary and have inspired me to take on this challenge.
This marathon is about so much more than just running 26.2 miles. It’s a tribute to my dad’s strength, the brilliant surgeons who’ve helped him, and everyone who faces sarcoma with courage. Every donation helps improve treatments, raise awareness, and bring hope to families facing similar battles.
A Story of Resilience and Determination
Over the last two decades, my dad has completed the London Marathon in some of the most creative and unforgettable costumes you could imagine. From a deep-sea diving suit to St George pulling a dragon, Indiana Jones being chased by a boulder, the Iron Giant on stilts, Brian the Snail from The Magic Roundabout, and even the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine, he’s brought smiles to countless faces while raising money for incredible causes.
In 2021, my dad was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. What followed was a grueling journey of surgeries, radiotherapy, and complications. After his first operation to remove a tumor from his throat, two clear scans gave us hope that the cancer was gone. Unfortunately, it returned the following year, and this time, the journey took an even more challenging turn, resulting in him requiring a laryngectomy stoma—a life-altering procedure that has become a part of his daily life.
