Manchester to Liverpool Ultramarathon (50 Miles)

Event date: 7th April 2023

Neil White is raising money for The Ricky Casey Trust

My story

On April 7th (Good Friday) I will be taking on the challenge to run a 50 mile ultramarathon, starting at Old Trafford and finishing in Liverpool.
As some of you are aware running is a huge passion of mine and is for a very close friend of mine.

April 7th 2019 I competed in my first marathon (exactly 4 years before this race) alongside one of my best friends Leon Talabi. Months before the event I asked in our group chat if anyone would like to run this with me, Leon without hesitation jumped at the chance. After he agreed I did have to point it out just how far this was, as Leon at this point has never even completed a 5k and is also flat footed!!!
Fast forward to a couple of days before the event, speaking on the phone Leon asked me not to leave him during the race so we can support each other, selfishly at the time I wanted to go for a speed, but I agreed.

Race day came and in typical Leon fashion he was late to the start, meaning we missed our race block. The race it self was not difficult until around mile 20 when I started to feel the miles on my body, but looking to the side of me was Leon, still going strong, still flat footed and still never completed a race event before. Leon didn’t know this at the time but he was my inspiration he was hurting, suffering but kept moving forward and we crossed the finish line together. Sharing that moment with one of my best friends is something I will treasure for the rest of my life and something i will always hold dear to my heart.

Moving on to 2021 and Leon received the worst news possible, he has a severe form of cancer that only effects certain individuals with certain characteristics, his outcome was not good and was told he would be lucky to see the end of the year. (I have attached Leon's story, that was ITV news the back end of last year). Leon to no surprise is still with us today running his new race, still flat footed, now married to a wonderful woman and still my inspiration. I am trying to raise money to support trials to help individuals with Leon's rare for cancer.
I appreciate any donation possible and keep an eye out for race updates.
