My story
For those of you who know me well (and for those of you who don’t), I decided to set myself a personal challenge this year as I approach my 60th birthday in January 2023.
So I settled on short sail across the North Atlantic with an eight person crew. Some may call it the peak of a mid life crisis, I see it as the optimal test of my mental and physical strength. We will be crossing from St. John’s in Canada to Cowes on the Isle of Wight in the UK - a 1900 nautical mile sale across 11 days, commencing on 23rd July - passing no other land en route and with 25+ knots speed, minimal sleep, 2 hours on, 2 hours off, this will be a true test of endurance! The sailing boat, Osprey, can be tracked across the Atlantic via the following link - forecast.predictwind.com/tracking/display/Osprey/?mapMode=useGoogle&windSymbol=WindStreamlines&weatherSource=ECMWF
Whilst doing this as a personal challenge, I wanted to take the opportunity to raise some much needed funds for two charities very close to my heart, The North London Hospice and Cherry Lodge Cancer Care Centre.
North London Hospice provides free care and support to patients suffering from illnesses that cannot be cured, living within the London Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. North London Hospice is multi-faith and aims to cater for people of all faiths, and those of none. northlondonhospice.org/
Cherry Lodge Cancer Care is a charity committed to improving the quality of life for those living with cancer, their carers and families. cherrylodgecancercare.org.uk/
All donations will be split equally between both amazing charities. I greatly appreciate any donation large or small - thank you so much and see you back on dry land - Over and Out - 'Captain' Marc Sidney!
