Judi Syson is raising money for Help for Heroes
It's getting close now! Mary Wilson has been climbing the 282 Munro's and (hopefully) on 31st August will complete the table. This is a remarkable challenge for Mary as she battles against Multiple Sclerosis - this manifests itself in multiple ways, fatigue and muscle weakness are the obvious ones but are compounded by the balance issues she faces. There?s also the massive effort needed to make progress over boulders and scree when your eyes and brain don't compute and having a chronic inability to orientate a map and use a compass - hence she takes Judi along to read the map and carry the hot water flask! Mary doesn't walk the easy way either, if there's a ridge to do or a scramble in the way then she's up for the challenge, we've learnt to take breaks between big days out and always be walking in the direction of the car by the 8 hour point.
A Munro is a Scottish mountain over 3000ft (914.4m) and the list was complied by Hugh Thomas Munro and published in 1891. The Scottish Mountaineering Council maintains the list and when Mary has completed the list she will become a member of the Munro Society - open to all mountaineers who complete the 282 summits.
Mary has climbed with so many people and mountain leaders over this challenge - we hope you will all come together now to reward Mary's efforts with a donation to Help for Heroes. Mary has chosen this charity as it represents the spirit of determination to overcome adversity. Once we reach £1000 for H4H we will collect the next £1000 for the Treats for Canine Troops so please give generously so we can reach our joint target of £2000 and the next £1000 will go to the John Muir Trust and the next ?? how far can we go, please help!
Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Help for Heroes.
