Mountain Mission is raising money for TRINITY RESOURCE CENTRE LIMITED
Event date: 28th July 2013
MOUNTAIN MISSION IS COMPLETE! DONATIONS ARE STILL BEING ACCEPTED AND THIS PAGE WILL CONTINUE TO BE OPEN WITH DONATIONS HELPING TO SET UP NEW COGS CLUBS. SO PLEASE GIVE!
Mountain Mission was a fundraising event organised and completed by five lads from Thanet (Tobias Donohoe, Kenny Pratt, Oliver Donohoe, Ben Sutton & Will Berritt).
All funds raised went to COGS Clubs in Kent. Please visit www.cogsclubs.org.uk/home/. (Note that Trinity Resource Centre is a location for one of the existing Cogs Clubs. However, all funds raised are evenly distributed between all the Cogs Clubs, as well as being used to set up new clubs.)
Mountain Mission was a 7 day (28th of July to the 3rd of August) hike through the region of Snowdonia (Wales), covering over 140 miles in distance, 13041m in height gain, and includes reaching the peaks of 50 mountains without a support team, carrying all of their own equipment and sleeping in tents during the night. To give you an idea of the extent of this challenge in terms of height gain and height loss, it was the equivalent of climbing Everest from sea level (and coming down again) one and a half times in under a week, plus covering over 140 miles in distance! The trek was a compilation of mountain trails with the last day being the infamous Welsh 3000s challenge (a.k.a. "the 14 peaks") (see www.the14peaks.com). For an interactive map of the route visit : http://goo.gl/maps/RVjhI.
Dementia had touched each of the boys' families at some point. To give something back, the boys decided to create and partake in this unique and gruelling challenge whilst donating all funds raised to a terrific cause.
Cogs Clubs are based on and run in the same structured way as the NICE approved Cognitive
Stimulation Therapy. Cogs Club offers a day of activity, stimulation, music and fun for people
living with mild dementia. They cater for up to 10 people and are mostly run by volunteers of an
organisation/charity such as a church. Cogs Clubs are currently run in various parts of Kent.
The aim of the clubs is to encourage members to recall and develop new skills and to facilitate the
transfer of these skills to activities at home. It also provides the family carer/significant other with a
days respite.
The money raised so far has enabled such a boost for Cogs Clubs, but more is needed to help new clubs start up and spread this wonderful organisation.
Please be as generous as you can with your donation and THANK YOU!!
