Our story

Men of North is an established men’s mental health walking group based in North Wales, created to offer a supportive and inclusive space for male staff to connect, reflect, and improve their wellbeing through walking together in nature. What began as regular local walks has grown into something bigger, with the group now preparing to take on a shared and ambitious challenge: completing the National Three Peaks between 26–28 May 2026 to raise money for charity.

For many of the men involved, several working in high‑pressure environments such as the Welsh Ambulance Service. The upcoming challenge represents far more than summiting mountains. It is about purpose, connection, and demonstrating that looking after mental health can sit alongside physical challenge, resilience, and teamwork. In the months leading up to the event, the group continues to train together, building fitness, confidence, and trust. These walks provide a natural space for open conversations, early support, and the breaking down of stigma around men’s mental health.

The National Three Peaks challenge will see the group attempt to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon over three days. The physical demands, changing weather conditions, and fatigue will test participants both mentally and physically. However, the challenge has been intentionally chosen to reflect the realities many staff face in their working lives, pressure, uncertainty, and the need to keep moving forward with the support of others. The group will tackle each mountain together, reinforcing the message that no one has to face challenges alone.

While the challenge is yet to be completed, the positive impact of Men of North is already evident. Those attending report feeling more motivated, better connected with their teams, and more equipped to manage work‑related pressures. The shared goal of the National Three Peaks has strengthened camaraderie and provided a powerful focus for ongoing conversations around mental health.

The anticipated benefits of this initiative extend beyond the group itself. By raising money for charity, the challenge aims to turn a personal and collective journey into wider positive impact. Importantly, by supporting staff wellbeing through initiatives like Men of North, there are clear benefits for the communities they serve. Staff who feel supported and mentally well are more present, empathetic, and resilient.

The National Three Peaks challenge, scheduled for 26–28 May 2026, represents the next chapter in the Men of North journey. With the right preparation, professional support, and shared purpose, the group is working towards a challenge that will promote mental wellbeing, raise funds for charity, and reinforce the value of connection, openness, and mutual support, both on the mountains and in the workplace.
