Nepal 2010 Kat-man-du-it

Laburnum Boat Club is running a major youth expedition to Nepal in November 2010. The aims of the trip are three-fold: to enhance the personal and social development of all involved (the group will plan, organise and run the expedition, including descent of the Kali Gandaki, the most holy river in Nepal); to develop community projects both here and in Nepal (we will be working with a community project in Nepal and will be working with a Nepali company, who put all their profits back into the community); and to be a motivational tool for the young people of Hackney. The young people will be organising the trip from the outset, working as a team to set up logistics and raising the £20,000 necessary for the trip to go ahead and, on return, will produce a lecture tour to take to Youth Clubs and watersports centres to inspire and motivate other young people. The trip will be physically and mentally challenging, but will also be a once in a life time opportunity for participants to expand their horizons, physically and metaphorically.
