Orlaith The Way To Galway

Event dates: 2nd June 2022 – 4th June 2022

Caroline, John, Tricia, Dan, Elaine and Gerard are raising money for Foundation for Conductive Education, Macmillan Cancer Support and University Hospitals Birmingham Charity

Our story

In June this year Caroline and John Quinn, Tricia Ryan, Dan McMenamin and Gerard and Elaine Melaugh will be joining the Orlaith the Way to Galway team made up of 38 cyclists plus a dedicated support team and cycling more than 200 miles over three days from Birmingham UK to Tuam, Co.Galway on the West Coast of Ireland to raise money for three very deserving charities. Caroline and John will be tag teaming and splitting the distance between them so that one of them is available to care for Orlaith as she will be joining them on the trip! :) The other team members will cycle the full route!

The three charities NICE - Centre for movement disorders, Fighting Skin Cancer and Macmillian UK have been carefully selected due to their personal significance and connection to the cyclists.

Orlaith who inspired the groups name is a 6 year old family member of the cyclists who has a significant movement disorder meaning she is currently a full time wheel chair user. She attends NICE for vital movement therapy known as conductive education as well as schooling and the charity have been a huge part of the progress she has made to date.

The second charity, Fighting Skin Cancer was chosen following the loss of Orlaith’s grandfather Tommy Joe Ryan to the awful disease. It is in tribute to him the cycle route has been chosen mirroring a journey he took back to his home place many times.

Thirdly, the cyclists will be raising funds for Macmillian UK who have recently supported one of our cyclists family members through her cancer diagnosis and provided very valuable support to both her and her family at a difficult time.

It’s an honour to take part in this challenge and raise much needed funds and awareness for these charities. We are currently putting in some serious effort training for the event but we need your help! Any donation big or small you can give would be welcomed to help us make this fundraising challenge as successful as possible!

You can find out more about our event and the hard training that is currently underway to prepare for the event by following our social media pages Orlaith the way to Galway. Thanks for taking the time to read our page!
