My Passion Project
Event dates: 18th March 2016 – 15th April 2016
Natalie Richards is raising money for Friends of the Earth Trust
My story
My school puts on a Passion Fair for a specific grade every year and it's my year to share my passion and better the world.
My passion is saving the environment and stopping air pollution. For my project I focused on the CO2 emissions of major sports stadiums and the overall all effect that building new stadiums has on our environment.
One example of the destruction caused by the building of new sports stadiums is when FIFA, for the World Cup in Brazil, built an entirely new football/soccer stadium. To build the stadium, hundreds of trees were cut down and the environment paved with concrete. Vegetation hasn't grown in that area since. What makes this so awful is that the stadium was only used for the World Cup and hasn't been used since. It is now used as a parking lot for city buses. To add insult to injury, the area that they built the stadium was the home of the three-banded armadillo, the main food source of the native peoples of Brazil. The destruction of its environment nearly caused the armadillo's extinction which is ironic because the armadillo was the 2014 World Cup mascot.
For the project, we are required to do an action step to "solve" our passion problem. I am choosing to raise money for Friends of the Earth Trust as I believe that they are truly helping to solve and repair the problems facing our environment.
Friends of the Earth Trust works to create solutions to the multitudes of problems facing our environment, including problems caused by CO2 emissions. They also work to educate the people of the world on how they can make a difference in their own back yards.
Thank you for contributing and thus helping the world survive.
