Scout Hut Rebuild

1st Cheshunt Scout Group was founded in 1910 and is the oldest group in the central
Cheshunt area. It is a community based group, not affiliated to any other organisations so
All young people are welcome to join.

Boys and Girls join the group, their ages range from six to fifteen. The various sections:
Beavers, Cubs and Scouts are led by volunteer officers responsible for ensuring that scouting principles are taught to the members. They also make sure that the youngsters have fun and enjoy scouting.

The Hut is also used by Brownies, A Local Play Group, Yoga Group and a children?s dance school

The group is managed by the Executive Committee consisting of officers and lay members. They are responsible for running the Group according to the rules of the scout organisation. The finances of the Group are an important element of their function. Monies to support the Group are raised through subscriptions, fund raising activities, renting out the hall and charitable appeals. Monies are required to pay for capitation fees, purchase and upkeep of camping equipment and more importantly the upkeep of the headquarters.

The Group is fortunate in owning its own headquarters. The hut is situated in Rowlands Fields behind the Victoria Public House off Turners Hill and was erected in about 1926. the hut as been added to and altered over the years, the most recent being some five years ago when due to the sagging of the roof, supports were installed within the main hall to prevent complete collapse. The roof has about another five years of life left.

It is evident therefore that the Group requires a new building and to this end a rebuilding fund has been set up. At present the fund stands at £47324.48 but as the new building will cost up to £300,000 the fund has a long way to go. Matched funding will be pursued from local charities and organisations. At present plans for the new hut have been drawn up and will soon be submitted to the planning authority for approval.
