RAF Valley ATC are raising money for Veterans With Dogs and Adferiad Recovery

Our story

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

25 members of the Air Traffic Control Sqn at RAF Valley are aiming to cover 1000km during the month of November, through either running or walking. We are doing this to raise money for two charities which provide vital support to the veteran community, a community we collectively feel strongly about. We will be providing continuous updates via this page and through the activity tracker "STRAVA".

PLEASE DONATE ANYTHING YOU CAN

Veterans With Dogs

  • Veterans With Dogs is the UK's leading organisation that trains and provides assistance dogs exclusively for current and former members of the British Armed Forces diagnosed with a mental health condition.

  • Veterans With Dogs is the first in the UK to specialise in providing trained assistance dogs for Veterans with mental health difficulties.

  • Our goal is to improve quality of life and help lead independent lives by training assistance dogs in task-specific skills relevant to mental health.

Your generous support helps fund the following:

  • £3 pays for daily feeding.
  • £25 pays for leads, collars and id tags.
  • £50 pays for inoculations.
  • £100 covers the costs of spaying/neutering a dog.
  • £150 covers the costs of a puppies first year insurance.
  • £500 covers the cost of a veteran/dog assessment.
  • £1,500 pays for a veteran to attend our residential training programme.
  • £10,000 pays for a VWD puppy, their first year of raising, training and supporting our future ‘Wonderdogs’ destined to become an Assistance Dog for Invisible Injuries.
  • £25,000 pays for the full cost of training a puppy over two years, including placement and future training with their Veteran.

Troop Café

  • The Troop Café is a part of the award winning Cais Social Enterprises, and it offers a dedicated space for members of the ex-services community, affordable and quality light bites, cakes and drinks, and a range of catering training, work experience and volunteering opportunities.

  • The Troop Café also hosts a weekly drop-in session for Change Step, where former members of the forces can connect with one another in a social environment and access peer mentoring support and advice on employment, housing, benefits and other issues.

  • They help people gain new qualifications in catering and hospitality, boost their confidence, and get ready for work. So far, they've worked with more than 100 people — helping them collect approaching 200 qualifications and assisting dozens into new jobs.
