Supporting the local distribution of Di Kombra Di Krai (Cry of a Mother) within the local communities of Sierra Leone

Event date: 11th August 2020

Rob Rainbow is raising money for Purple Field Productions

My story

Sierra Leone has the highest rate of maternal mortality in the world, with 1,360 mothers dying per 100,000 live births (by comparison, the UK figure is 3.25 per 100,000). This shocking number of deaths is due in part to a shortage of hospitals, trained staff and ambulances. But lack of education also plays a part: and that’s where film can help. PFP & Future View Film Group (FVFG) in Sierra Leone have now finished filming ‘Di Kombra Di Krai'.
The film is a drama based on true-life stories and is an original idea from the group, which they have scripted and produced themselves with the support of PFP, including two volunteers from St Thomas’s Hospital in London. ‘Building hospitals and training more midwives is something we cannot do,’ says Tyson Conteh, FVFG’s Director. ’But there is a very important role which we think is the backbone to saving the lives of the mother and the baby which we think we can contribute to; that is, informing the people who lack knowledge about what to do from the first day of the pregnancy on to the last day. We believe a film like this will save a lot of lives for generations to come.’
Rob's zoom quiz night raised a fabulous £1118 to get the ball rolling. We're looking to continue this fantastic effort and raise as much money as we can to distribute this important film to as many people as possible.

Thank you so much to all the 'quizzers' who took part, we hope you all had fun. I'd also like to thank those who didn't take part but donated anyway. Thanks to you all, we have exceeded our target of £1000 and can now put those funds to work in getting this vital film's message spread as far and wide as possible. We're so grateful for your support - Rob.
