My story

Over the next year, ending August 2026, I will be celebrating my 70 years on this planet by raising as much money as I can for 2 charities: Greenpeace and Circus Eruption. In exchange for your sponsorship, I will be swimming 70 km (at least) in the sea, rivers, lakes, ponds and pools – as much as possible wild, fresh (ish) or salty water, possibly chlorinated or sewered. I will be swimming, where possible, with old and new friends, probably towing a rubber duck. There will be no hand puppets involved.
Will you
a)      Sponsor me?
b)      Swim with me?
c)      Watch me from a warm dry place?
d)      Mock my ridiculous vanity?
Also on 2nd August 2025 I will be gathering friends together in Swansea celebrating on a beach and having a mass swim/paddle as part of the day – more details on that later but please save the date if you’d like to join me.

My updates

1st June, 0.5km off Brighton Beach and then on 2nd, a 1km swim in Saltdean Lido honouring the memory of my friend Emilia who invited me to swim there with her.

This very special swim took me to 65km.

Another kilometre in London Fields lido with my dear friend and London host Amanda Benjamin. This takes me to 63.5km.

Not quite 70km yet but my 70th swim was in London on 27th May, 1km in the Serpentine, in the sunshine, in a heatwave through the algal bloom, supported by my school friend David Mushin.

2 swims with Barney O'Kane in north Wales adding 1.5km to my total. Half a kilometre in Llandudno Bay and then swims and a sauna in Llyn Padarn in Llanberis, a beautiful clear lake, taking me to 1.5.

Back in Swansea I have been clocking up the km in the Village Pool, the Vale Resort and Tadley Pool, with some outdoor swims in Swansea Bay and Langland Bay after saunas in Barney and Bethan's Sauna Hut, and Three Cliffs Bay and Gwladys Falls in Glynneath when our friends Nora and Max were visiting from Germany.

Running total 60km! Only 10 to go before August 2nd!
