Quitting alcohol in support of Mental Health

Event dates: 31st December 2022 – 31st October 2023

Jordan Louise is raising money for Airedale Voluntary Drug And Alcohol Agency Limited and Mind (The National Association For Mental Health)

My story

I am a student mental health nurse and have a passion for helping those struggling with mental ill-health and those who are battling with alcohol and drug addiction.

I have chosen to fundraise in aid of MIND as they are a charity that support those with mental health in England and Wales, please see their website here: mind.org.uk/about-us/what-we-do/

I have also chosen to fundraise in aid of Airedale Voluntary Drug and Alcohol Agency as they cover the Craven district, where I live. It is a volunteer sector and provides advice and support for substance users, their families and their carers. 'Project 6' provide harm redcution services, community treatment and recovery services as well as primary and secondary care settings. They also provide peer mentoring. Find out more here: project6.org.uk/keighley/

I have already been sober for 62 days starting on 30th October 2022, and would like to continue this sobriety for at least a year and raise funds for these charities as I do so. Alcohol is such a social norm these days, and I can definitely see how those struggling with addiction would find it so hard to stay sober in this society just from being sober myself. Everything we do involves drinking nowadays and the negative impact alcohol has on peoples mental health, even when they do not struggle with addiction, is also apparent.
