Paula Foulsham is raising money for Oxford CAB
OUR STORY
Every now and then someone special comes into your life, helping you through a very troubled and stressful time and afterwards you wonder how you would have managed without them. One very knowledgeable and caring Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) Adviser did just that for us, they were patient and listened to everything we had to say.
In the last year we have been going through an impossible situation, that no-one should have to deal with on their own. The rent account for our bungalow (through no fault of our own) had changes made which put us in serious arrears in the thousands. We attempted to find solutions but eventually a repossession order arrives, giving us eight weeks to pay, or court action would be the next step. Our family had been helping us in the dispute up to this point, but we had been unable to work out a resolution. Being OAP’s we have never had this experience before and were at a loss as to how to proceed.
We tried phoning CAB main office, but had no answer, then, while looking online we found a drop-in CAB Centre just a ten mins walk away. We went to make an appointment, unsure if they could help us, expecting not see anyone and to have to ask for help. On entering the clinic, we were beyond stressed, as we were seven weeks from court action! To our surprise, we were welcomed with tea and biscuits, and asked to wait 15 mins until we could be seen. All our fears and stress subsided when they said, “yes we can help you”, Over the next few weeks, we watched as she turned our nightmare into clear skies.
OUR MISSION
We are aiming to fundraise, with a view of helping CAB to rent more rooms in local communities to run more drop-in centres, enabling them to help more people who are desperate for help. You never know if It could be you or your loved ones who may need help in the future.
The scary truth is, often the older generations or those on benefits are left behind in a technological world. Where they are without access to information that enables them to understand what options are available to them. We are fortunate in that we have family to support us, however even with that we were all eventually at a loss as to how to proceed. Many people do not have this support network.
The CAB are a local independent charity and are grateful for any donation to help reach more clients. I’m sure you will be
pleased to hear that they are currently planning to start operating further outreaches in different parts of Oxford, so that they can reach people like yourselves who are not based in the city centre.
We want everyone to be able to benefit from the CAB Advisers wealth of knowledge and experience like we have, so that less people are left out in the cold.
Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Oxford CAB.
