Fundraising for the BIG SING: Connecting Gaza and the West Bank with Sheffield at Small Park BIG RUN 2025

Event date:

small park BIG RUN 2025 are raising money for Sheffield Palestine Cultural Exchange

Our story

A group of us are planning to run in the North Lincolnshire Half Marathon & 10k 2025 on Sunday 2nd March, raising funds for Sheffield Palestine Cultural Exchange, specifically for the Big Sing activity at small park BIG RUN , 21st – 22nd June 2025.

The Big Sing needs funding for sound equipment and livestreaming technology, so that we are able to link up with projects and people in Palestine as we did in 2023 and 2024, as shown in this  video from 2023

Small park BIG RUN has been a feature of the Sheffield running calendar since 2017, raising awareness of the severe restriction of freedom of movement for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

During the BIG SING, seven choirs and members of the public sing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and other songs, which we transmit live to partners at projects in Palestine. This has produced a deeply impactful experience - for us in Sheffield too - and more choirs and individuals are very welcome to join us.

By singing together and livestreaming from the event we are making a clear statement – you are not forgotten. We see you, we hear you, we remember you. We want to show that the people of Palestine are not walking alone, even as their freedom of movement is restricted, arbitrary arrests and detention are at an all-time high in the West Bank, properties are seized, crops destroyed, and Gaza has practically been levelled. Despite all this duress, people in Sheffield continue to reach out and connect with people in Palestine, and the Big Sing is a joyous act of solidarity and love that amplifies this connection.

Please give what you can to the fundraiser. Any surplus from the donations above the cost of the Big Sing will be donated to the charities supported by small park BIG RUN.

Thank you for checking out our page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Sheffield Palestine Cultural Exchange.

Our updates

Our supporters are fantastic: we’ve reached our target with almost a week to spare. Thank you all so much. Please continue to donate if you want to support us. All surplus donations will go directly to supporting the causes that spBR raises money for: supporting  women’s education and children's health and play in Palestine. We are heartened by everyone who has contributed to this fundraiser.

Please continue to donate via this page so that we can connect with the people in Palestine during the small park BIG RUN and show our continued support for them in this difficult time.

small park BIG RUN is a festival of solidarity and movement that celebrates and campaigns for freedom of movement for everyone. That this is not the case in Palestine is illustrated bleakly today with the sad and frustrating postponement of the very successful Palestine Marathon - planned for Bethlehem in April. Bethlehem is completely encircled by Israeli settlements and all entrances, checkpoints and gates in and out are controlled by the Israel army - here's a description of the current, suffocating situation from the Christian Palestinian activist Rifat Kassis talking with Vatican News: facebook.com/reel/625930633376175
*When we run in Scunthorpe on Sunday, we will be running in protest of this enforced postponement.*

From Fran: "I'm running the Lincolnshire Half because running makes me feel alive and I'm grateful for being so. I'm grateful for being able to run, for being able to get lost in skies and trees and countryside, for being able to think of my family and friends without wondering if they've been killed by a shell."

The BIG SING fundraiser is going well: we're half way to our target so thank you to all our supporters. One of the participants in the Lincs Half Marathon, Fran Green, ran the Palestine Marathon in March 2023. In his fascinating blog article he explains his experiences and reflections - and also why he's running with us this March: "I'm running the Lincolnshire Half because running makes me feel alive and I'm grateful for being so. I'm grateful for being able to run, for being able to get lost in skies and trees and countryside, for being able to think of my family and friends without wondering if they've been killed by a shell." Read on...
