Nathalie Reese is raising money for The Open Door Centre
Earlier this year, Dave presented me with a confirmation email of entry into the Liverpool 10K. Having never so much as ventured on a brisk walk I wasnt totally convinced id be able to do it. But the challenge was accepted and after a couple of months of training (and moaning about training) we are both raring to go! We are running for The Open Door Centre, Please give anything you can to this fantastic cause which is giving Merseyside youngsters suffering from anxiety and depression the helping hand they need. Here is a little bit about what the Open Door Centre do...
"Here at The Open Door Centre we aim to take mental health support directly to those in need of it, many of whom would otherwise be unwilling or reluctant to seek it out for themselves. Our service is designed in a way which is at odds with the traditional anti-clinical approaches which have for too long been the sole avenue of support for young people in the area.
We have a range of projects and services which affiliate the discussion of depression and anxiety with creative, artistic and musical circles rather than the medical, clinical domain. We are a key player in arts and culture in the region, providing the most well respected musical provision locally.
More often than not, especially among young people, there is a reluctance to discuss and be open about mental health issues and thus people are less likely to seek help. There is also the assumption that mental health issues must be in an advanced stage to merit seeking help. We dismiss this and believe that tackling issues at an early stage, before the situation worsens, is by far the best approach."
