Riley's Blind Day

Event date: 18th December 2014

Susan Blissett is raising money for Aniridia Network

My story

Riley (11) has a sister with Aniridia, called Tora (7). Tora is registered servilely sight impaired and has been a cane user since she was two and half. Her main source of learning is audio, large print and braille.

Tora is totally blind in her left eye and only has peripheral vision in her right, which she uses extremely well. She also has a lot of eye conditions due to Aniridia and the prospects of her remaining sight are uncertain.

Since Tora was born Riley has sometimes found it hard to bond and understand her little sister, due to the many hospital appointments. However, as she has got older this has become easier.

Riley has a best friend called Natalia who also has Aniridia and they met at one of the ANUK conferences. It was lovely to see such a wonderful friendship blossom.

Riley has decided, because Aniridia is a big part of our lives, to do a sponsored blind day to raise money and awareness for the Aniridia Network UK. She is going to wear a blind fold on the 18th December starting from 8 am to 8 pm (12 hours).

Riley is also going to do a day in a life as a blind child by doing everything she would normally do to her best of her ability (and not too dangerous), she will even be going to school. I will be chaperoning her around for the day to make sure she is safe (and to make sure she doesn?t cheat :-) ).

I will keep a mini dairy asking how she is and I will post the video up of her day. Please, please donate as this come from Riley?s heart xx
