Running for Narcolepsy

Anna Smith is raising money for Narcolepsy UK

My story

Noah is 11 - he was diagnosed with narcolepsy when he was 8. For Noah this means excessive daytime sleepiness, disrupted sleep at night, sleep paralysis, hallucinations and cataplexy (where he suddenly loses all muscle tone). Noah can fall asleep up to 10 times a day, and spends a lot of his days trying to fight the urge to sleep and keep himself engaged in lessons at school, friendships and sport.

Its is desperate to watch your child struggle with an illness and not be able to fix it. However, I feel incredibly proud of how he approaches each new stage and whilst I hold a lot of anxiety about his future I also remain optimistic that treatments may improve. There is no cure and treatments are currently aimed at symptom control - mainly stimulants to keep him awake and other medication to minimise the cataplexy. It is very rare, especially in children and so research and support are really poorly funded. Narcolepsy Uk is a small charity but one which has given us great support and information whenever we have needed.

I want to raise a bit of money for them. They have made a real difference for us and for other people who have this condition. So I'm going to do a long run and not complain about being tired!! So I'd be so very grateful if you could donate!
