My story
So, I’m doing something I once said I would never do: run a half marathon.
As an ex-sprinter attempting to become a long-distance runner, this is definitely a challenge and I’ve already been training hard in preparation for the Wroclaw Half Marathon on June 6th.
As many of you know, my dad passed away when I was 13, and this year marks 13 years since he died of prostate cancer. Although the pain has become easier to carry, I’ve now lived a large part of my life without him, and that’s something that’s hard to confront. He had a great life, which has always helped with the grief, but he never knew me as the person I am now or saw the things I’ve gone on to do.
So, as a way to celebrate my dad and make him part of my life once more, I’ve decided to run this half marathon for charity in his memory. I’ll be raising money for Prostate Cancer UK and for St Oswald’s Hospice.
One, to help fund research so that people can have longer with their loved ones despite a cancer diagnosis.
And two, because sometimes things don’t get better, and having a place that makes the hardest times a little easier truly matters.
If you’re able to donate anything at all, I would be incredibly grateful. A huge thank you.
