William Hinton is raising money for DEBRA
I am running the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise awareness of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) and much needed funds for the butterfly skin charity, DEBRA; to help them in their goal of raising enough money to find effective treatments for people living with EB and ultimately, a cure.
My motivation for doing this is my two year old son, who was born with EB Simplex. EB is a genetic fragile skin disorder, which causes the skin to tear and blister at the slightest touch. It is also rare, affecting an estimated 5,000 people in the United Kingdom. So, before our son's birth, my wife and I had not heard of it, and were completely unaware of the pain and challenges that this condition brings him and other people with EB on a daily basis.
DEBRA has been extremely supportive of us a family since our son was first diagnosed, and we have been very lucky to meet some amazing and inspiring people since the beginning of our EB journey. I therefore, want to do something that can help make a difference to improve the quality of life for people living with EB.
I have set myself an ambitious but hopefully achievable target of raising £100 per mile of the half marathon. I hope that this will go some way in supporting DEBRA’s 'A Life Free of Pain' appeal.
Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto DEBRA.

Well, we did it! Last Sunday (1st October) I completed the Cardiff Half Marathon and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it! The weather conditions were perfect and I was able to finish in just over 2 hours and 15 minutes.
We raised over £2,000 for DEBRA's 'A Life Free of Pain' appeal, as well as raising awareness of EB. This is amazing and is well beyond my expectations when I first decided to take on this challenge.
Thank you all again for your support. It means a lot. Will

Another update: I have now exceeded my latest fundraising target of £1,750. This is amazing - thank you so much!
Training continues to go well. Last week, we were on holiday in Devon and I was spoilt with beautiful views overlooking the sea (see image below)! I have now reached the 10 mile mark, which I am very pleased about with just under 4 weeks to go!

Last week I surpassed my fundraising target of £1,500. This is amazing - thank you! With still around 6 weeks to go before the half marathon, I am hopeful of raising more funds. So, I have increased my target to £1,750.
I managed an 8.5 mile run last Sunday. I still have a little way to go in terms of distance, but I am confident that this is achievable in the coming weeks.

Yesterday I achieved my original target of raising £100 per mile of the half marathon, which is brilliant! This is much sooner than I expected - thank you!
However, with still around 7 weeks to go, I think there is still ample time to raise more funds for DEBRA and awareness of EB. So, I have increased my fundraising target to £1,500. Thank you for your support.

Thank you so much to those of you who have donated so far! I am so pleased to see that I have nearly reached my fundraising target, particularly in such a short space of time after setting this page up. However, I do hope to raise more funds to support DEBRA and raise awareness of EB.
Training is going well. I have started jogging twice a week to improve my fitness, and managed 7.5 miles on Sunday. It’s tiring work, but the countryside views make it easier.
Your donations will help the great work DEBRA do.
